In my second year studying Fine Art, my practice continued to be inspired by nature. I built on my first year work; drawing and making observational sketches in biro, fine liner and pencil. In the casting studio, I experimented by collecting objects to press into clay, creating a wooden frame to pour plaster into. This resulted in positive and negative reliefs of found objects. At an exhibition at Sion Hill open studios, I presented a series of 5 columns that focused on the composition of the collected objects. Instead of having a flat surface, I curved the paper to leave tree-structure like forms which stand freely in an open space. Hand drawn and painted in monochrome, they emphasised line, shape, tone, pattern and composition.
